Poster 123: Biomechanical Comparison of Four All-inside Meniscus-Based Repairs to Radial Tears of Human Cadaveric Lateral Menisci

چکیده

Objectives: Meniscal injuries are among the most common orthopedic in United States. Radial meniscus tears were historically treated with partial meniscectomy, often leading to poor outcomes. tear repair preserves meniscal tissue, may delay knee degeneration, and leads better long-term Repair techniques for radial vary should be evaluated differences biomechanical properties failure mechanisms. All-inside, meniscus-based suture repairs have shorter operating times, minimize risk of nerve injury, increasingly possible novel devices. Our objective was evaluate strength based on load-to-failure four all-inside human cadaveric lateral menisci. We chose two that bridged directly – Double Vertical (DV, Figure 1) Cross (DVX, 2). other added horizontal reinforcing stitches engage bridging All-inside Rebar (AR, 3) our Oblique Box (OB, 4). hypothesized AR OB would higher load than DV DVX. Methods: 36 fresh-frozen adult menisci randomized into groups nine. Dissection, repair, testing completed one at a time period from thawing testing. Each dissected its tibial bone block, complete created midbody meniscus. Suture performed using 2-0 braided straight needle. Two-Tunnel Transtibial Repair of Radial Meniscus Tears Produces Comparable Results to Inside-Out Repair of Vertical Meniscus Tears.

BACKGROUND Radial meniscus tears disrupt the circumferential fibers and thereby compromise meniscus integrity. Historically, radial tears were often treated with meniscectomy because of an incomplete understanding of the biomechanical consequences of these tears, limited information regarding the biomechanical performance of repair, and the technical difficulty associated with repair. There is ...

Effects of serial sectioning and repair of radial tears in the lateral meniscus.

BACKGROUND Radial transection of the peripheral fibers of the meniscus could render it nonfunctional; however, the biomechanical consequences of a complete lateral meniscal radial tear and repair in human specimens have not been elucidated. HYPOTHESIS A complete radial tear will exhibit knee contact mechanics approaching those of total meniscectomy. Repair of complete radial tears will re-cre...

Comparison of Medial and Lateral Meniscus Root Tears

The meniscus root plays an essential role in maintaining the circumferential hoop tension and preventing meniscal displacement. Studies on meniscus root tears have investigated the relationship of osteoarthritis and an anterior cruciate ligament tear. However, few studies have directly compared the medial and lateral root tears. To assess the prevalence of meniscal extrusion and its relationshi...

Vertical Tears of the Lateral Meniscus

Background: Lateral meniscal tears are often seen with acute anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and may be left in situ, repaired, or treated with meniscectomy. Clinical studies have shown good outcomes with vertical tears left in situ and poor outcomes following meniscectomy. However, clinically relevant studies are needed to establish a biomechanical foundation for treatment of these tea...
